The other day I called up a friend of mine to see if he wanted to go get ice cream in town somewhere, it was about 8:00pm in the early summer and so I asked where he wanted to go. I look up the place on Google Maps and see that they are open until 9:00pm according to their listing. Well I go and pickup my friend and we head to the ice cream shop and come to find out that the place is closed on Monday's. Needless to say that the information their Google Maps listing gave us was wrong, which leads me to my first feature.

You Can Tell Google When Your Business Is Open

It's really simple to be able to tell Google what you business hours are. Simply go to Google My Business and sign in. Once you've signed in you can either add your business to Google Maps or you can edit your business information.

If You Haven't Google My Business

  1. Sign in.
  2. Click "Get on Google".
  3. Type the name of your business into the search box.
  4. Once you've located your business on the map, click the box that say's you are authorized to represent this business.
  5. They will want to verify that you are the owner of the business, this can be done through a simple phone call or through snail mail.
  6. Click on the "Edit" button next to the settings gear icon in the top right corner of the image.
  7. Enter in all of the information about your business including a website, phone number, and your hours of operation.

If You Have Setup Google My Business

  1. Sign in.
  2. Find the page of your business and click "Manage This Page".
  3. Click on the "Edit" button next to the settings gear icon in the top right corner of the image.
  4. Scroll down to "Hours" and edit them.

I recently was listening to the radio and there was an advertisement for a local guy who can charge money to update your businesses hours online. Instead of paying a guy to do that, do it for free!

You Can Add A Virtual Tour

Sometimes people want to see what your business looks like on the inside. Recently in Charlotte, NC they held an event called "Taste of Charlotte" where you could dine at some real high dollar restaurants for a deep discount. Well lots of people wanted to take advantage of that so they took to the internet to find out which ones would be the best to try. Some found out that Google had a place where you could see inside the restaurant. When some came into the restaurants they asked "How did you find out about us?" some had said "We saw the inside of the restaurant on Google and it looked like a great place to try!". The service is called Google Business View and it could be quite the advantage to have the inside of your business on Google Maps.

You Can Send Directions to Your Device

Say you're traveling to some place you've never been before. You need to find the local airport, hotel, stadium, or auto care place. Instead of printing out the directions or punching it into your GPS that has the outdated maps that drive you off a bridge. Send it to Google Maps on your device. I have found Google Maps to be way more accurate than any Garmin GPS I've owned so you can trust it more than that GPS on your dashboard.

You Can See the Terrain of Your Bike Ride

So you want to go on a bike ride from one part of town to the other. Sometimes the shortest route may not always be the easiest route. With biking directions from Google, you can see where your path may go uphill and downhill and tell you how much elevation change will take place during your ride.

This list just scratches the surface of what Google Maps can do for you and I could list many more but for the sake of length, I'll just end it here. Thanks for reading!
